Abstract

1394329 Antiskid braking systems AUTOMOBILES CITROEN SA 12 June 1973 [13 June 1972] 27813/73 Heading F2F Antiskid braking apparatus comprises means for producing an electrical signal representing at each instant the difference between the speed of a wheel and the speed this wheel would have if the slip had a predetermined value and an electrically operated valve 5a or 5b responsive to the signal to reduce braking pressure, the signal being differentiated and integrated and a fraction of the differentiated signal and a fraction of the integrated signal together with the initial signal being summed to obtain an error signal which is used to control the valve to keep wheel slip below the predetermined value, the integrated signal being taken into account only when the value of this signal tends to increase the error signal. A magnetic pickup 27a... 27d arranged close to a wheel supplies pules, of which the frequency depends on wheel speed, to a frequency-voltage converter 28a...28d, the converters being connected to a comparator 29 which determines which wheel has the highest speed and applies a signal to a memory unit 31 the output of which is applied to a generator 32 which multiplies the signal by a factor between 0À7 and 0À8 and supplies a reference speed. Comparator 29 also supplies second signals representing the slowest of the front and rear wheels to comparators 33a, 33b the output of comparator 33a being supplied to generator 32 to produce a signal representing the difference between the reference speed and that of the more slowly rotating front wheel. The output of comparator 33a is connected to a differentiating circuit 34a and an integrating circuit 35a the signals multiplied by coefficients Kd and K i being added by adder 36a to the signal from comparator 33a. An error signal E is produced at the output of adder 36a which is connected to one input of a comparator 38a having its other input connected to a sawtooth voltage generator 37 and its output connected to the input of a flip-flop 39a whose output is in turn connected to the control winding 24 of a brake pressure modulating valve 5a via an amplifier 40a so that the presence of an error signal causes the valve 5a to produce a braking pressure drop according to the amount of wheel slip. Comparator 33b is connected via a similar circuit to a valve 5b.
