Abstract
1393984 Controlling helicopters K KORSAK 14 Feb 1973 [27 March 1972] 14342/72 Heading B7W [Also in Division F2] A reactionless differential drive to a pair of contra-rotating coaxial rotor shafts 4, 5 of a rotary wing aircraft comprises one or more input shafts 1, each driving a carrier 16 of planets meshing a ring gear 7 and sun 8, driving the respective output shafts 4, 5 through bevels 9, 11 and 10, 12, the gear ratios of which are such that the output torques are equal. Brakes 35, 36 on the output shafts 4, 5 are operable differentially by aircraft rudder pedals for either braking the rotors or controlling the aircraft in yaw.
