Abstract
1393909 Anaesthetic Apparatus; Carbon Dioxide Absorbers C M GUZAY 14 Aug 1972 37744/72 Heading A5T [Also in Division Bl] A carbon dioxide absorber for use in closed circuit administration of anaesthetic is demountable into a plurality of components each of which is autoclave-sterilizable and includes an absorber head having chambers 36, 38 connected by a passageway 42 and receiving absorber canisters 22, 24 having base members 100, 102, 104, 106, the absorber providing a path therethrough from the patient through an exhalation valve, mounted on a housing 152 and having a movable member 188, down a tube 124 in canister 22, through holes 136 in tube 124, via a perforated disc 128 into the absorbent material 126 in canister 22 and thence via passageway 42 through the absorbent material 206 in canister 24 and via perforated disc 128 thereof into the base member of canister 24 and then via openings 136 in tube 124 of canister 24 and via an inhalation valve assembly 150 to an outlet tube 204 leading to the patient. The valve assembly 150 has an inlet tube 196 leading from an anaesthetic vapouriser and from a gas mixing and delivery apparatus. The bridging passageway 42 communicates with a pressure gauge and with a pressure relief valve 52. The base member of canister 24 has a fitting 120 communicating with a breathing bag 144. The movable members 188 of the exhalation and inhalation valves are visible through transparent caps 184.
