Abstract

1393908 Bearings TRU-LINE Inc 9 Aug 1972 37196/72 Heading F2A The bearings of a shafting system are aligned by fixing supporting fittings, each of which has a passageway therethrough, to a base structure so that the passageways are in approximate axial alignment with one another; temporarily and movably supporting in each of the passageways a bearing support sleeve so that annular spaces are defined between the sleeves and their respective support fittings; accurately aligning the sleeves with one another; fixing the sleeves in their respective support fittings whilst they are accurately aligned by filling the annular spaces with a settable material; and removing the temporary supports after the settable material has hardened. The sleeves may be accurately aligned when the bearings and shaft are in place by providing instruments to indicate the load on the bearings and adjusting the sleeves so that the load is a predetermined value.
