1393770 Making chains MEYER ROTH & PASTOR MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 17 July 1972 33405/72 Heading B3E A chain-making machine comprises a fixed mandrel 7 round which each link is formed, having a groove 8 for accommodating the preceding link 9, a sleeve 6 for feeding a piece of rod 5 to form the next link against an abutment 15, a retainer 11 for holding the piece 5 against the mandrel, being tools, e.g. rollers 14 for curving the piece round the mandrel, and further bending tools 18 for imparting a reversed bend to the piece. As shown, the bending tools are mounted between opposed cheeks of tool holders 12. When the workpiece is in place, and held by retainer 11, the holders are moved in the direction of arrow 22 so that tools 18 impart a reversed bend to the workpiece as at 23, and the mandrel 7 is so shaped that the workpiece can then be further pressed against the mandrel by advancing retainer 11. The tool holders are then moved in the direction of arrows 24, to form the piece into a U-shape as at 26, followed by completion of the link in conventional fashion.
