Abstract

1393607 Tape reels P POSSO 28 July 1972 [28 July 1971] 35517/72 Heading B8M A tape reel is assembled from first and second parts 1, 2, the first part 1 being made from glass fibre reinforced plastics material and including a first flange 3 and a core, the core having a wind-on sleeve 4 and a central drive boss 5 connected together by a tie-piece 6, which tiepiece defines a plurality of sockets 8, and the second part 2 being made of transparent plastics material and including a second flange 10 and transversely projecting centring members 11 which engage in respective sockets 8, the centring members and the sleeve 4 being connected by a bonding agent which remains pliable after polymerization. The tie-piece 6 is preferably of Y-shape cross-section, the foot of the Y being integral with the boss 5 and the arms extending to the sleeve 4. Protrusions 7 are provided projecting from the arms of the Y on one side to define the sockets 8. An annular centring flange 13 may also be provided which engages the radially outer surface of the boss 5. Further centring ribs may be provided on the members 11 and the flange 13 which can be temporarily ultrasonically welded to the sleeve 4 and boss 5 respectively. The glass fibre reinforced plastics part 1 is preferably made of acrylonitrile styrene filled with glass fibres. The bonding agent used is preferably a mixture of an acrylic cement and butadiene.
