Abstract

1393499 Air bed conveyers H E GLADISH 19 April 1973 [20 April 1972] 18898/73 Heading B8A Objects having a curved surface are conveyed by a support fluid film wedge which is produced by fluid from a plenum chamber adjacent curved support means escaping through directed nozzles communicating between the plenum and a surface portion of the support means. In the figure, an object 34, e.g. a toilet roll, is conveyed in a longitudinal direction and rotated about its own axis as indicated by the arrow, by means of air directed through nozzles 26, 28 formed in the inner surface of trough-shaped support means. A plenum chamber is formed below the trough by for example welding on a pipe section having a radius different from that of the trough. The trough also has a radius slightly larger than that of the article to be conveyed in order that atmospheric air may be drawn in by the operation of the nozzles 26, 28 to impart a rotating motion to conveyed objects. The conveyer may be used in dynamic storage systems (Figs. 4, 5, 6, 11, 16, not shown), in pressure loading a wrapping machine (Fig. 10, not shown), to convey pallets (Fig. 13, not shown), or to support and rotate rollers in a roller conveyer (Figs. 14 ,15, not shown).
