Abstract

1393294 Needle position indicator SINGER CO 26 May 1972 [10 June 1971] 24848/72 Heading DIG [Also in Division H2] A sewing machine is provided with a device signalling the position of the drive shaft, the device comprising a stationary signal generating member 140 and a movable member 150 supported to move in a path adjacent member 140 to cause the latter to emit a signal, the member 150 being coupled to the shaft by a friction coupling which will not render during acceleration of the shaft. As shown two armatured coils are provided each constituting a generating member 140 and each cooperating with a permanent magnet 150, 150<SP>1</SP> respectively carried on arms 151, 151' which embrace a hub extension (153, Fig. 3 not shown) secured to the shaft. The arms are sandwiched between a flange (152) on the hub extension and a dished washer (155) having radial fingers 156. The driving motor (see Division H2) has an electromagnetic brake and a tachometer. Cooling. A disc (102, Fig. 2 not shown) of heat insulating material is disposed between the members 32, 100 of a dog clutch through which the motor drives the machine.
