Abstract

1393244 Making protective buffers for boxes UNILEVER Ltd 28 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 11794/71 Heading B5D In an apparatus for folding the edges of a blank 24 into hollow section buffers, the edges of the bank are attached to parallel elongate members which are moved towards one another and rotated to fold the edges therearound. The members 6 may be of rectangular or triangular cross-section and may be recessed. The members 6 are carried by arms 1 pivoted by a cylinder 20 and rotatably supporting an extension (5, Figs. 2 and 3), of the members 6 of circular cross-section A cord 10 is wound around the extensions (5) and is attached to the apparatus frame through springs 11. Thus, as the members 6 move towards each other they are rotated by the extensions (5) running along the cord. The arms 1 are guided by bars 13 fitted with stops 14, 15. The ends of the blank 24 may be inserted in slots formed between the members 6 and flanges 8 attached thereto, or each member 6 may have a plurality of apertures in one face, these apertures being connected to a vacuum source to grip the blank.
