Abstract

1392857 Microwave ovens MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 14 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 17420/72 Heading H5H The door seal of a microwave oven includes a quarter-wavelength choke cavity 4 and an insulating coating 9 to prevent sparking between the contacting metallic surfaces 3, 5. Ferrite-loaded rubber 7 absorbs any escaped attenuated microwave energy, a polypropylene cover 8 protecting the surface of the rubber 7 from contamination by food. The coating 9 is anodized aluminium and may be infilled with insulating material, Fig. 3 (not shown). The choke cavity and insulating coating may be on the oven cavity surround which the door engages, or one on each contacting surface, Fig. 4 (not shown). The oven has the usual door switch (not shown).
