Abstract
1288151 Microwave ovens LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc 4 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 5450/70 Heading H5H A microwave oven door seal is made so as to be effective during the initial opening movement of the door. The metal side walls 20 bounding the oven cavity are bent, as shown, to provide a frame 10 defining the opening 8, and the door 3 has a projecting rim 14 forming a frame which overlaps frame 10 when the door is closed. A box-shaped, viewing panel support 16 on the inner side of the door has conductive sides 18 facing the rim 14 and providing therewith a channel accommodating the frame 10, which has a plastics inner lining strip 12. An outer lining strip 21, Fig. 3 (not shown), of carbon loaded plastics, is secured to the external surface of frame 10, freeing rim 14 when the door is closed, to prevent radiation leakage. A section 22 of conductive surfaces 18 provides a passage 24 forming a high frequency choke. The usual interlock and timer circuitry is included in the apparatus.
