Abstract

1392813 Sulphur solutions UNION CARBIDE CANADA Ltd 19 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 33870/71 Heading C1A Sulphur is dissolved in the presence of hydrogen sulphide and hydrocarbons by means of a solvent composed of a water-soluble amine solvent for sulphur or an aqueous solution thereof, and a dispersing agent having an initial foam height of less than 15 mm. and a foam-life of less than 60 seconds. Specified amine solvents include C 2 -C 4 aliphatic amines, C 2 -C 4 alkanolamines, and aniline. A list of suitable dispersing agents is included in the Specification. The solvent system preferably comprises 5 to 50% by wt. of a C 2 -C 4 aliphatic amine or alkanolamine, 30-94% water and 1-20% of at least one dispersing agent.
