Abstract

1392404 Rotary positive-displacement machines; fluid-pressure apparatus PARKERHANNIFIN CORP 16 Feb 1973 [20 March 1972] 7719/73 Headings F1F and F1P An hydraulic system, e.g. for operating an hydraulic motor in a refuse compactor in which the load resistance increases progressively during the working stroke, comprises a fixed displacement pump 3, e.g. a gear-pump, driven by a series wound electric motor 4 supplied by an A.C. source via a rectifier 24, such that at any load resistance between minimum and maximum the product of the pump output flow and output pressure is approximately constant. In operation of the refuse compactor system shown, a switch button 28 is depressed to energize motor 4 and solenoid valve 10, pump 3 then supplying fluid via valve 10 to move compactor piston 17 downwardly, a pilotoperated check valve 12 being opened, by pilot pressure via conduit 34, for return of fluid below the motor piston to reservoir 5 via solenoid valve 11. As piston 17 moves downwardly, switch 26 closes to energize holding relay 27 to maintain energization of motor 4. At the end of the downward stroke of motor 2, the pressure build-up in line 15 operates pressure switch 32 to de-energize valve 10 and energize valve 11, the return stroke of piston 17 then taking place. At the end of the return stroke, switch 26 is opened by piston 17 to de-energize motor 4. A pressure-relief valve 14 is provided. Pressure switch 32 may be replaced by a sequence valve. Motor 4, pump 3, reservoir 5 and a valve block form an integrated unit, Fig. 1 (not shown).
