Abstract

1347725 Press brakes AMADA CO Ltd 13 Aug 1971 [17 Aug 1970] 38028/71 Heading B3E A ram of a bending press is raised at an enhanced speed by supplying pressure fluid to the chamber a of a cylinder 5 from a pump 17 and from the chamber b of the cylinder, via circuit means 29, until increased resistance is met, e.g. at the start of a bending operation, whereupon the speed of the ram is reduced by operation of a valve means in the circuit means so that pressure fluid from the chamber b is fed to a reservoir 19. In operation the piston 11 is raised by pressurizing the chamber a while the fluid discharged from the chamber b passes via ducts 25, 26 to valve assembly 29, fluid being prevented from returning to the reservoir by a check valve 23. The discharge fluid from the chamber b passes through a chamber 43 of the assembly 29 to a duct 21 where it joins the pressure fluid from the pump. When the ram meets a workpiece the pressure in chamber a is raised until, at a predetermined value, the fluid is conveyed into an oil port 61 of the assembly 29. This causes a piston 49 to move to the left as seen in Fig. 3, against the resistance of a spring 55 and establishes an hydraulic connection between duct 26 and a duct 33. The discharge fluid from chamber b therefore passes along duct 33 to the reservoir. Upon completion of the bending operation a valve 37 is actuated to close duct 21, thus causing the fluid in chamber a to flow into the reservoir due to the piston being lowered by the weight of the ram, fluid being sucked into chamber b via duct 25 and check valve 23.
