Abstract

1392388 Shearing; corrugating G ZAPPA and L ZAPPA [trading as ZAPPA FRATELLI DI GIUSEPPE & LEOPOLDO] 13 June 1972 [19 June 1971] 27487/72 Headings B3W and B3E Sheet metal working apparatus comprises at least two pairs of spindles, 14a, 14b supporting rotary tools, such as an assembly 28 of disc cutters spaced by sleeves, and supported by a rotatable turret 12 which can be held in at least two positions, in each of which a pair of spindles is in working position, spindles 14b in Fig. 1, and the overall other pair of spindles is in a tooladjustment, replacement &c. position. The ends of the working spindles remote from the turret are supported by a frame 16, which is slidable on a base-plate 10 to release the spindles and allow rotation of the turret. Mounted on the frame 16 is a motor 18 for varying the vertical spacing between the spindles by means of a shaft 20 and conventional spindle mountings. The turret 12 is clamped in its selected position by fluid-operated tapered pin 38 and a houses a gear drive 40 for selectively rotating whichever pair of spindles is in the working position. In an alternative rotary drive arrangement, Figs. 4A and 4B (not shown), sliding movement of the frame 16 away from the turret disconnects the drive by disengaging dog clutches (44) while leaving the spindles supported by bearings (48). In a further embodiment, Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), the turret is rotatable about a horizontal axis, the spindle ends passing through a pit (F) during movement between working and tool-adjustment &c. positions. The disc cutter assembly 28 may be replaced by corrugating tools.
