Abstract

1391931 Sorting sheet material on conveyers JOHN STRANGE & CO (ENGS) Ltd 17 Jan 1973 [17 Jan 1972] 2185/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division G1] Sheet materials, of for example tin plate, copper, brass, aluminium, plastics, paper, or cardboard, may either continue being transferred along a series of endless conveyer belts 4, or may be deflected at the end of any one of the belts by the action of a tiltable flap 12. The latter is deflected from its horizontal position (in which it connects adjacent belts, by the action of a signal transmitted from unit 6 when a predetermined area of thickness is detected in the material. The thickness is monitored by a roller 22 connected by a linkage 23-31 to probes 32, 33. The latter, on detection of the predetermined thickness dip into mercury 34 and complete an electrical circuit. The linkage is dashpot damped at 36 and may be adjusted at 38.
