Abstract

1391639 Magnetic bearings HOESCH WERKE AG 14 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 57768/72 Heading F2A [Also in Division G3] A magnetic bearing comprises a fixed ring 1 having a flange 11 received in an annular recess formed in a second ring 2 which is rotatable relative to the ring 1, the rings being of ferromagnetic material. Electromagnets 6 with a fixed excitation current are mounted on the ring 1, and electromagnets 3, 4, 5 with a variable excitation current derived from potentiometers 12, 13, 14 are mounted on the ring 2 which is held in floating relationship to the ring 1 by the interaction between the magnetic fields produced by the electromagnets. Any change in the position of ring 2 relative to ring 1 causes movement of one or more of the potentiometers relative to the fixed sliders 15, 16 or 17 whereby the energization of electromagnets 3, 4 or 5 is correctively varied in a sense to oppose the change. The ring 1 may be the rotary member and the ring 2 stationary.
