Abstract
1391385 Electroslag remelting processes INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI EO PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 26 April 1973 [29 April 1972] 19830/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division H5] In an electroslag remelting plant comprising consumable electrodes arranged in a mould 1, the electrodes are arranged in an even number of parallel rows a, b, the total cross-sectional areas of the electrodes in each row being equal, and some 4 of the electrodes in each row are movable relative to the mould and the rest 3 are fixed relative to the mould, electrodes of adjacent rows being connected to opposite terminals 5, 7 of a transformer 6. During casting the movable electrodes are fed downwards into the slag as an ingot forms, it being arranged that the bath is in constant contact with the ends of the stationary electrodes. The end electrodes of each row are stationary. The movable electrodes of each row have a total cross-sectional area which is not greater than the total crosssectional area of the stationary electrodes of the same row. The electrodes in various embodiments may be rectangular, with their wide sides facing adjacent electrodes, or they may be shaped to fit a circular section bath, Fig. 3, not shown, and they may be all of the same or of different composition.
