Abstract
1391220 Piperylene derived resins GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 26 Sept 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 44392/72 Heading C3P Resins having a softening point in the range 10-40‹ C. comprise 80-100 wt. per cent piperylene units, correspondingly up to 20 wt. per cent 2-methyl-2-butene units and optionally up to 15 wt. per cent units derived from piperylene dimer or trimer or other C 4-6 unsaturated hydrocarbons, and are prepared by polymerization at -50‹ to + 50‹ C. in the presence of BF 3 or a C 2-12 etherate thereof. Exemplified resins are formed from a cis-trans-piperylene mixture or a cis/trans-piperylene/16% 2-methyl-2-butene mixture, in each case with a very small amount of cyclopentene also present, the polymerization being effected in heptane solution using
