1391218 Recreational device R DATTNER 4 Sept 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 40983/72 Heading A6M [Also in Division El] A hollow geometrical member comprises a plurality of planar facets, said member having a free peripheral edge lying in a single plane, said peripheral edge being composed of side edges of some of said planar facets, the side edges defining said peripheral edge being of equal lengths, and the side edges being alternately tongued and grooved whereby said member may be united with a second identically shaped member to form a hollow geometrical figure for childrens play. As shown the joining means are tongues and grooves 13, 14 (Fig. 3) and may be supplemented by bolts and angle pieces (15) (Fig. 7) (not shown). All triangular facet edges in said peripheral edge have one member (e.g. tongue) and all square facet edges in said peripheral edge have the other member (e.g. groove). The tongues and grooves may be tapered as shown (Fig. 3) or may be snap fit interlocking. Adhesive may also be used. The device is described as "cuboctahedral" and is suitable for childrens recreational use. It may be provided with access holes in the square faces. Holes 11 allow adjacent cuboctahedra to be joined (e.g. by bolts). The members may be moulded synthetic resin (e.g. A.B.S., P.V.C., polyurethane) which may be reinforced with glass. Alternatively fibre glass, steel mesh or steel needles may be used to reinforce concrete. Metal sheet (steel or aluminium) may be used. The members are nestable for shipping.
