1390580 Phenoxy phenyl butanols SERDEX SOC D'ETUDES DE RECHERCHES DE DIFFUSION ET D'EXPLOITATION 10 Oct 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 47244/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula where R 1 is H, hydroxy or alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms and R 2 is H or acyl derived from a mono or polycarboxylic acid having 1-6 carbon atoms, the phenoxy radical being in the para or meta position with the proviso that R 1 is not H when the phenoxy radical is in the meta position. The compounds may be prepared by reducing a compound of the formula to a compound of the formula. and subsequently where necessary etherifying the hydroxy acid with an alcohol having 1-6 carbon atoms, and reducing the acid of Formula IV or the etherified or hydroxy acid of Formula V to an alcohol of Formula I and subsequently where necessary esterifying the alcohol with a mono or polycarboxylic acid having 1-6 carbon atoms.
