Abstract

1390559 Vulcanizing rubber CODAN GUMMI AS 2 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 21842/72 Heading C3E A vulcanizable rubber composition comprises a retarded ultra-accelerator system and insoluble sulphur, together with a catalyst capable of transforming the insoluble sulphur into soluble sulphur. The specified composition comprises dibenzothiazyl disulphide as retardant, zinc dibutyl dithiocarbamate as ultraaccelerator and dibutyl ammonium oleate as activator. The compositions may be extruded and then vulcanized at atmosphere pressure in an aqueous curing medium at about 100‹ C. In Fig. 1, a rubber composition is supplied as a continuous band into extruder 10, the head of which is provided with inlet 18 for supplying hot water to the hollow space of the extruded article. The article passes into a double open insulated trough 20 filled with water, kept slowly boiling by steam tubes 22. Means may be provided for circulating the water in the bath in the extrusion direction. Wheel 20 returns the partially vulcanized article through the other part of the trough 20 to a point near the extruder. The vulcanized article passes through rubber-covered rollers 26.
