1390553 Dental stands PENNWALT CORP 20 March 1972 [23 March 1971] 12832/ 72 Heading A5R [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A dental unit comprises a base member 18 which supports a fluid and/or electrical supply system 12 for dental handpieces and an evacuation system 14 for remaining fluids, and a vertical post 20 partly within and extending from the base 18 and carrying a rotatable horizontal arm assembly 22, on which a tray 26 is rotatably mounted so that when retracted, the tray, at least in part, is disposed above the base 18. The evacuation system 14 is rotatable about a vertical axis on the base for adjusting its position and includes a saliva extractor (360) Figure 18B (not shown) and other evacuation instruments (358, 372), and interchangeably mounted on either of two opposite sides as desired, a cup filler/cuspider assembly 30. The components of the supply system are arranged in two modules 32, 38 hinged on the upright. so that the interior of the upright may be exposed for servicing. The supply system 12 when actuated by a foot control unit controls the supply of compressed air and water to dental handpieces (282, 284, 286) Figure 18A (not shown) and to the evacuation system 14 for operating venturis (364, 374, 392) Figure 18B (not shown) connected to the evacuation instruments and the cuspider. The post 20 is telescopically adjustable relative to an upright 16 in which it is guided by roller bearings (98, 100) Figure 10 (not shown) at least one of which is adjustable. The cant of the post may be adjusted by screws (116) acting on the bearing unit. A pair of rotatably interconnected arms (23, 25) are connected for rotation at the top of the post in an arm slightly less than 360‹. The connections between the arms and between the arms and the tray are such that they each permit a relative rotation of slightly less than 720‹. The hanger may be latched in a downwardly pivoted position to prevent the operation of the plunger 188 when the handpiece is removed. The fluid and electrical systems are controlled by a foot control and may be selectively connected to operate the dental unit or a separate tooth cleaning (prophylaxis) unit by a selector switch (418) Figure 19 (not shown).
