1390378 Protein enrichment of green fodder AGROBOTANIKAI INTEZET 14 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 17257/72 Headings A1F and A2B A method of increasing the protein content of green fodder comprises e.g. by spraying an aqueous solution of urea or a substituted urea, which is also effective as a source of nitrogen in protein synthesis in the living fodder plant, to the living fodder plant either simultaneously with cutting the standing crop in the field or shortly after cutting whilst the plant is still living or shortly before cutting. A 10-50% weight % solution of urea, preferably a 25-50% solution is applied to give 1 to 2% of urea on the weight of green crop is very suitable. To prevent decomposition of carotene an oxidation-inhibiting agent is added to the solution e.g. an ethoxy-methylquinoline or a butyl-hydroxy-toluene. The solution also contains a stimulant of protein synthesis in the living fodder plant, and an inhibitor of protein decay, e.g. by inhibition of oxidative diamination or of transmethylation in amino acids and protein, which are in amounts of p.p.m. To increase the adhesion of this solution to the plant an adhesive agent is added to the solution.
