Abstract

1390171 Change-speed control VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd 20 Dec 1973 [18 Jan 1973] 2584/73 Heading F2D A shift lever 22 has a pair of legs 38, 40 straddling a crank-pin 16 fixed to an arm 14 upstanding from a selector shaft 10 so that the shaft is rotated and displaced longitudinally by movements of the lever in mutually perpendicular planes, and one of the legs 40 is of such length that it abuts the shaft 10 to resist movement of the lever to a position corresponding to selection of reverse ratio, the end of the leg having a cam surface 42 so that if extra force is applied to the lever the leg will ride up over the shaft against the force of a spring 30 to allow selection of reverse ratio. The arrangement is such that less force is required to return the lever from the reverse selection position.
