1390068 Toys LESNEY PRODUCTS & CO Ltd 31 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50211/72 Heading A6S A toy strut mounting comprises a strut extending through a hole in a part having inside and outside surfaces with at least one projection on the inside surface peened or swaged to secure a bent-over inner end of the strut. The strut may be used in a toy land vehicle, or in a toy boat having several hulls secured by struts, but in the two forms shown is used in a non-flying toy aeroplane. In the first of these forms, the nose wheel 3, Figs. 1, 2, of a non-flying toy aeroplane is journalled on the lower end of a steel wire strut 4. The aeroplane fuselage has an upper and a lower section 1, 2 with a hole in the lower section for the strut 4. A projection 6 on the inside surface of the lower fuselage section 2 has a groove receiving the bentover inner end 5 of the strut 4. The upstanding parts of the projection 6 on each side of the strut end 5 are peened or swaged over to retain the strut 4 in place. A downwardly depending finger 7 in the upper fuselage section 1 slots into a hole through the lower fuselage section 2 and is painted on its exposed surface to resemble a hatch cover. In the second of the described forms, two struts 10, 12, 14; 11, 13, 15, Fig. 6, are united by a common bent-over inner end 16. Projections 18, 19, Fig. 4, on the lower fuselage section 2 extend upwards on each side of a transverse hole or slot 17, and have chamfered upper edges. The projections 18, 19 are swaged towards each other, beneath the bentover inner strut end 16, to secure the struts to the fuselage. Wheels 8, 9, Fig. 6, are retained on the struts by melting the strut ends to form small blobs. In both forms, the struts provide a spring mounting for the wheels.
