Abstract

1390033 Polyurethane moulds SYNTHESEWERK SCHWARZHEIDE VEB 26 June 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 43430/71 Heading B5A A mould for use in producing a ceramic article, e.g. a cup or dish, is made of rigid or flexible polyurethane foam. The working surface(s) of the mould is rendered hydrophilic by a mechanical or chemical roughening treatment. The mechanical treatment may comprise sand-blasting or rubbing with sand paper. The chemical treatment may comprise immersion in concentrated sulphuric acid, chromic acid or potassium hydroxide in ethanol. Non-working surfaces of the mould may be protected by silicone grease and/or silicone plugs during the roughening treatment. The polyurethane may be based upon a polyether alcohol, polyester alcohol, polyether-ester polyols, hydroxypolyester amide, or hydroxypolyether amide. A large number of examples are given, the examples embracing linear, cross-linked prepolymer aliphatic, aromatic and alicylic constituents. Many examples of aliphatic, aromatic, alicyclic heterocyclic di-isocyanates catalysts, activators, chain-lengthening agents, foaming agents, foam stabilizers, emulsifiers, crosslinking agents, stabilizers for improving resistance to hydrolysis, reaction retarders, P.V.C. fillers, and mould release agents are given. The polyurethane mould may be formed with conical through-bores and may be used in casting, rotary or pressing operations.
