Abstract

1389521 Ship steering gear JOHN HASTIE & CO Ltd 30 March 1973 15334/73 Heading B7V [Also in Division G3] A ship's steering gear includes command means for generating a first electrical signal corresponding to a movement of the ship's helm 10 and repeat back means 12 for generating a second signal corresponding to a movement of the ship's rudder 14. Selection and amplification equipment 16 receives the first and second signals and a pair of counteracting hydraulic rams 34 move the rudder. Hydraulic pumps 20 supply working fluid to their associated rams and each pump is controlled by a servo arrangement having a spool valve 40. Torque motor 18 moves the spool valve in response to an output signal from the selection and amplification equipment.
