Abstract

1389208 Electric alarm timepiece R C A CORPORATION 30 June 1972 [5 July 1971] 31464/71 Heading G3T An alarm timepiece incorporates subdued (drowse) and full alarm facilities and an alarm cycle renew switch 2 to reactivate the subdued alarm condition. The subdued alarm may be produced by a radio 8 for the whole of a delay or drowse period initiated by a time switch 5 at a pre-set time. The delay period duration is dependent upon the charging time of a capacitor 23 in a delay circuit 1 including a Schmitt trigger. At the end of the delay period a transistor 22 conducts and the base of transistor 21 offers a high resistance to mains A.C. fed via C30 R31 and current flow through 21 responds, forward biasing a diode 27 to pass clipped A.C. to the A.F. stages of the radio. Thereby the full alarm is produced and will continue until C23 is discharged. During the drowse delay period Tr 21 is saturated and diode 27 blocked so the full alarm is prevented. Manual operation of switch 2 causes renewal of the delay period and subdued alarm instead of the full alarm, when desired. A three position switch enables the switching ON of the radio when desired. A "sleep" switch 9 can be set to automatically switch OFF the radio after say half an hour's play.
