Abstract
138,890. Kingsbury, A. March 14, 1918, [Convention date]. Thrust bearings. - In a thrust bearing of the pivoted-block type, two bearing shoes are placed on one or both sides of a thrust collar on a shaft and are supported by rocking equalizing-plates which are divided so as to be removable transversely from the shaft. The shoes 15, Fig. 2, rock on rounded studs 22 on a plate 19 formed with two knife-edges 20 in diametrical alinement and at a small angle to the line joining the studs 22. The knife-edges rock on a plate 17, Fig. 5, supported in the casing and formed with a block 18 filling a gap in the plate 19, Fig. 4. The parts 17, 19 can be moved on to or from the shaft transversely. Flanges 21, 24 on the two parts form a channel for guiding oil on to the shoes 15. In a modification, applied to vertical shafts, a divided equalizing-ring rocks on knife-edges arranged at right-angles to the line joining two studs supporting the shoes, and each shoe may be replaced by a pair of shoes mounted at the ends of an arm rocking on central knife-edge. Fig. 13 shows a modification in which the studs 88 supporting the shoes are placed midway along bridge arms 87 resting on the ends of equalizing- bars 85 which rock on knife-edges 86. Screws 91 passing loosely through a flange 89 prevent the arms 87 from overturning. Each arm 87 may be attached at one end to one. of the bars 85. In another modification, an arm supporting one of the shoes bridges the gap in a ring such as that shown in Fig. 4.
