Abstract
1388848 Valves GESSEY & SON Ltd 3 Aug 1972 [3 Aug 1971] 36336/71 Heading F2V A mxing valve for hot and cold water comprises a rotary spindle 12, Fig. 2, formed with two cams 24 and 25 for actuating valves 22 in two inlet passages 18, the valves being prevented from rotating by engagement of fluted shanks 28 with the side surfaces of the cams. The flow from the inlets can be shut off when repairing the valve by fluted valve members 30, Fig. 3, in each of the inlet passages. Inward movement of a screw 31 urges these members against a seat 31. When the spindle 12 is rotated, hot water is not admitted to the mixing chamber 13, Fig. 2, until the cold water inlet is fully open. Continued rotation of the spindle progressively increases the proportion of hot water until the hot water inlet is fully open. Further rotation of the spindle gradually closes the cold water inlet so that the water leaving the mixing chamber becomes hotter. After 320 degrees of movement of the spindle the hot water inlet is gradually closed until both inlets are again closed. A knob (not shown) carried by the spindle 12 includes a spring loaded plunger which prevents the valve being turned directly from the fully closed position to the hot position.
