Abstract
1388746 Electric couplings UNION GARBIDE CORP 20 July 1972 [21 July 1971] 33941/72 Heading H2E [Also in Division H5] To prevent thermally caused mechanical damage to carbon or graphite electrodes 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> joined by a threaded nipple 4<SP>1</SP>, the threads at the base end of the sockets formed in the electrodes are removed, by back cutting, so that all the load fuses of the socket threads are engaged by surfaces of nipple threads. Thus the angle included between adjacent crests of socket thread is smaller than that between the last load breaming flank of the socket threads and the back cut surface of the socket. The length of the cut back recess L is given by the expression, (parameters shown of Fig. 2a). D 5 =Depth of socket; l = length of nipple; K = length of nipple boss; P = pitch of thread; F = float.
