1388138 Measuring cam radius electrically GERHARDT MESSMASCHINENBAU KG 24 April 1972 18993/72 Heading G1N A device for measuring radii of a cam 8 on a cam-shaft 1 comprises an electrical sensor 10 having a plunger 9 engaging the cam and providing an electrical signal representing cam radius and further sensors 17, of which the plunger 15 engages a cylindrical portion 13 of the cam-shaft in the same radial plane as the plunger, and 16 of which the plunger 14 engages the cylindrical portion at a point diametrically opposite the plunger 15, the difference between the signals from these further sensors being obtained in measuring device 18 and being combined in calculator 20 with the difference between the measured and theoretical radii obtained in calculator 12 whereby the effect of deflections of the cam-shaft may be compensated for in the measurement of cam radii. In a further embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown) the effect of radius of curvature of the radii sensor is compensated for by displacing the cylindrical surface sensed eccentrically in the direction of the cam.
