Abstract

1388128 Joint making packing T P NICHOLSON 14 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 11999/72 Heading F2B A control plate/gasket for a cylinder block, pipe joint, &c., comprises an apertured baseplate 2, e.g. of metal or cardboard, formed on each face with at least one metal sealing ridge 4 of rectangular cross-section surrounding the aperture, the plate having bolt holes 8 and discontinuous support ridges 6 adjacent the bolt holes to concentrate the bolt load in the sealing area. The plate 2 may be of soft iron, copper or steel, the ridges 4 being integral or formed by machining, electrodeposition or attachment of strips, e.g. of copper, nickel or silver. A protective coating, e.g. of PTFE may be applied, or the plate 2 may be lacquered or plastics coated if of cardboard.
