Abstract
1387653 Polyester monofilaments BAYER AG 3 July 1972 [10 July 1971] 30933/72 Heading B5B A low-shrinkage, highly oriented polyester monofil is made by melt-spinning, followed by stretching in hot water at a ratio of from 1 : 4 to 1 : 6 and at a temperature of from 70 to 100‹ C. and shrinking the monofil by from 3 to 20% in hot air at 5‹ C. to 40‹ C. below the melting point of the polyester over a period of 3 to 30 sees. Preferred conditions comprise 5 to 12% shrinkage at 8 to 30‹ C. below the melting point over 5 to 20 sees. Polyesters exemplified include polyethylene terephthalate of melting point 256‹ C. and a polyester of melting point 247‹ C. whose acid component comprises 90 parts terephthalic acid and 10 parts hexahydroterephthalic acid and whose glycol component is ethylene glycol. Monofils are defined as filaments of diameter 0À1 mm. to 5 mm., preferably 0À2 to 2 mm. Monofils so made may have a 2nd moment of at least 8À20 Gauss<SP>2</SP> at 20‹ C. and of at least 7À50 Gauss<SP>2</SP> at 60‹ C., and a crystallite orientation of 0À10 to 0À16.
