Electricity, supplying by meter.-A coin-freed time switch is fitted with an excess-current indicator consisting of a resistance wire coated with a material, such as urea crystals, which permanently changes colour or other visible characteristic on attaining an abnormal temperature. The resistance 12 is mounted on the insulating base of a prepayment time switch in series with a main switch 2 and an auxiliary switch 3, the whole being enclosed in a casing. On insertion of a coin, the main switch 2 may be closed by turning a handle 7 which winds up a clock allowing a supply for a predetermined number of current hours, or, by control from the auxiliary switch 3, for a number of separate intervals totalling this number of current hours.
