477,305. Time switches. MARCHANT, HILLS, & CO., Ltd. March 20, 1936, No. 8419. Void. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] A time switch suitable for closing the circuit to a hair-waving apparatus for a predetermined time and in which fluctuations of the voltage of the electrical supply are taken into account, includes a setting dial 30, marked with " coarse," " medium " and other types of hair indications, and adapted to be rotated till the selected indication comes opposite the needle 32 of a voltmeter V, or ammeter or wattmeter. The dial is visible through holes 33a, 33c in a plate 33 and itself has a hole 30a through which the needle 32 is seen. Besides the " hair " indications it is marked in minutes, this portion coming opposite a pointer R and indicating the time of closure of the circuit. The rotation of the dial 30 is effected by a handle 28 moving in a slot in the casing and serves to rotate a spindle 14 and wind up a clock spring 13. At the beginning of the movement a pin 23 fixed to the spindle engages the dolly 27 of a tumbler switch 25 and moves this "on." After the setting has been effected, the clockwork runs down and after a suitable time the pin 23 re-engages the dolly 27 and moves it back again into the " off " position. A ratchet arrangement allows the winding of the clockwork and a friction clutch F is also provided.
