138,746. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., Copley, J. W., and Thornton, A. C. March 20, 1919. Launching and storing torpedoes.-Consists in a regulatable means for utilizing the exhaust gases of aircraft engines to heat torpedoes carried by aircraft, and is shown in Figs. 1 and 3 in connexion with a torpedo 7 carried below an aeroplane 4. The exhaust from the engine 1 passes to a cylinder 2 and thence by pipe 3 to a torpedoheating nozzle 15 and also to the direct exhaust exit 6. The nozzle 15 is integral with a chamber 14 opening out of a sleeve 8 revolubly mounted around a perforated portion 10 of the pipe 3. The sleeve 8 is connected by link mechanism 16, 17, 18 with a hand-lever 19, so that the nozzle 15 may be applied more or less directly towards, or away from, the torpedo casing. The link mechanism may include a friction retaining-device of the kind described in Specification 129,436, [Class 80 (iii) Link-work &c.]. The sleeve .8 may fit the tube 10 closely, so that when rotated, it will more or less close the perfora- .tions 12. Valves may also be used to control either or both the outlets 15, 6.
