Abstract

1387451 Sanding apparatus BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 7 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972 9 May 1972] 6576/72 and 21634/72 Heading B7J Sanding apparatus for rail or road vehicles, e.g. a railway locomotive, comprises a sand box 3 which supplies sand to a valve 4 where it is agitated by compressed air from a pipe 5 and passes down a delivery tube 6, further air tapped at 9 from pipe 5 is supplied through pipe 8 to an ejector nozzle 7 where the velocity of the sand is increased and delivery through a pipe 10 on to rail 11 in front of driving wheel 2. In the modification of Fig. 3 air from pipe 5 passes through a fixed choke 18 with a first jet passing through orifice 13 to agitate the sand in valve 4 and a second jet passing through orifice 17 to provide a boosted sand blast in tube 6 before the additional boost in nozzle 7. Orifice 13 may be varied by regulating screw 14.
