Abstract

1387362 Laminates FERRO CORP 5 June 1973 26849/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates are obtained from fibrous material impregnated with a fire-retardant thermosetting composition comprising 50 to 20 parts by weight of a furane resin and 1 to 15 parts by weight of a complex of an amine with boron trifluoride, zinc chloride or ferric chloride, there being 50 to 80 parts by weight of the fibrous material. The composition also may contain 4 to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts of resin of further fire retardant material. In examples resins obtained from furfuryl alcohol and furfural are used as solutions in acetone to impregnate glass fibre fabrics, the solutions also containing complexes of boron trifluoride with monoethylamine, pyridine, monobutylamine, aniline, cyclohexylamine, diethylamine and triethylamine, a complex of zinc chloride with monoethylamine and a complex of ferric chloride with monoethylamine; some of the compositions also contain antimony oxide and tris-(dibromopropyl) phosphate as further fire retardant materials; after drying laminates are prepared from the impregnated glass fibre fabrics by the application of heat and pressure. It is stated that laminates may also be produced from nylon, polyvinylacetate, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, rayon, asbestos, paper and steel fibres, the fibres being in woven or non-woven form.
