Abstract

1387195 Mattresses etc.; beds PROGRESS MERCANTILE CO Ltd 15 March 1973 [9 Nov 1972] 51857/72 Headings A4J and A4M A bed comprises a lower, rigid support layer 12 of polystyrene foam with a non-planar upper surface intended to match the curves of a human spine, and an upper, resilient layer 13 of polyether foam having an upper surface complementary to the upper surface of the lower layer 12, a central section 15 of the bed, including that part intended to give lumbar support, being removable. The lower layer of the central part 15 may include a hump 17 which is offset from the mid-point between opposed edges A, B so that it may be reversely positioned by rotation through 180 degrees in its own plane. A soft foam layer 18 may overtie the upper layer 13. In another embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) a double bed includes two, side-by-side central sections (15, 15') which are independently removable and replaceable to suit individual requirements of the two users.
