Abstract

1387057 Sodium heated superheater FOSTER WHEELER CORP and GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 8 March 1972 [8 March 1971] 10867/72 Heading F4A In a liquid sodium heated superheater having a pressure vessel 10 and sodium inlet and outlet ports 68, 80 respectively, saturated steam enters at 26 and passes through down-comer tubes 36, arranged between pipe 38 and sodium reaction relief duct 42, to be superheated in helical tube sections 52 before being passed in riser sections 56 through tube sheet 60 to outlet 64. The sections 52 are supported by a bracket 81 which comprises a collar secured to the pipe 38 and a number of radially extending arms are connected to the riser sections 56; distribution rings 54 and calming rings 70 being arranged in the space occupied by the riser sections 56. Stagnant layers of sodium are formed between flow shroud 82 and the pressure vessel 10 and between the pipes 38 and duct 42 to provide insulation. A layer of steel cladding is formed on the inside surface of the pressure vessel 10.
