1386878 Automatic control of knitting machines FRANZ MORAT GmbH 17 May 1972 [16 June 1971] 23262/72 Heading G3N A programme control system includes a store of expected code signals each of which controls an operation of the working parts of a machine wherein each machine operation generates a code signal which is compared with the expected code signal to generate on agreement, a reading clock signal which advances the store and reads the information therein. In the circular knitting machine shown respective needle selectors 51 are controlled from programme store 50 through AND gates 97 which are enabled by pulses derived from the machine itself from sensor 93. The store 50 is read by a reading clock signal produced by comparator 48 which compares the coded energization of lines a, b and a', b'. Signals on a, b represent the machine position and are derived from photo-electric or other sensors 17, 19 cooperating with the rotating segmented disc 11. The signals on a', b', which are the expected code, are generated by counter 49 which is incremented by the reading clock pulse as is the programme store. The comparator arrangement may have the signals a', b' derived from the signals a, b by a gating arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown). The sensing disc arrangement may be replaced by a device for sensing the machine position directly. For fault free work each needle may be scanned at 67 and the resultant code signal passed to an address register 69 so that comparator 71 can be used to ensure that store 50 is addressing the correct needle.
