Abstract

1386787 Conveyers and feeding containers SCHWEPPES Ltd 20 Dec 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 51447/71 Headings B8A and B85 Thin walled containers 122 (Fig. 4) of plastic or metal, are fed (by means not shown) sue cessively to a series of cavities 18 (Fig. 1), in each of which a filling operation takes place from a respective head 12. The latter may be replaced by a lidding or seaming head. The cavities 18 are carried by a rotating assembly 10, and each is defined by inner and outer shell portions 14 and 16 respectively. The inner portion 14 is downwardly urged by a spring 34 into abutment with a shoulder portion of the shell portion 16. The latter is also guided for downward reciprocable movement under the action of a cam 30 to a position in which a cam follower 32 engages a cam track on the machine frame. After a predetermined degree of rotation of the assembly 10, after the filling operation, the cam track forces the shell portion 16 further downwardly to a position in which the container can be discharged laterally. The shell portion 14 has its downward movement limited by engagement of a shoulder 22 with the top edge of a part 20 of the assembly 10. The mechanism for unstacking the containers and feeding them towards the cavities 18 is the same as that described in Specification 1,386,786. The filled containers are transferred to an endless conveyer 214 (Figs. 6 and 9) on which they are conveyed past a station 324 At the latter they are supplied (as described in Application 51448/71) with outer cup-like members. The containers have their spacing controlled on the conveyer 214, firstly by the action of a worm member 224, and secondly by arms 230 of an auxilary conveyer 232.
