Abstract

1386728 Laminates MOORE-PERK CORP 14 May 1973 [18 May 1972] 22845/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division A5] An article for applying heat or cold to the body comprises a flexible liquid-tight conduit 10 through which a hot or cold fluid can be passed between an inlet and an outlet, and a covering 11, 12 engaging at least one side of the conduit including a core of flexible soft absorbent material 13, 16, an exterior layer 15, 18 of flexible tear-resistant grid material and means for bonding the exterior layer to the core. As described a covering is provided on both sides of the conduit and the bonding means comprises a sheet 14, 17 of thermoplastic film heat-sealed to the core and exterior layer. The conduit may be formed by heat-sealing together sheets of plastics or other material along a serpentine path. Apertures may be provided in the heatsealed areas to permit fluid to pass through the conduit layer while maintaining a liquid-tight conduit. The core material may be crepe paper or rayon and the grid material a scrim or open network of loosely woven fibres, e.g. of nylon. The layers 14, 15, 17 and 18 are secured together by heatsealing at their edges. Cotton scrim may be used for layers 15 and 18 in which case an additional plastics layer may be placed exterior thereto and bonded therewith by heating. The plastics layers 14, 17 may be replaced by an adhesive.
