Abstract

1386383 Brush gear LUCIEN FERRAZ & CIE 13 Mach 1973 [5 May 1972] 12018/73 Heading H2A In an electric motor, the brush holder casings 13, each holding two brushes 14, are supported by pairs of axially extending insulating members 7 which are fixed, via a ring 3, to the end cover 2 of the motor, and the brushes are pressed against a commutator 1 by torsion springs 26 mounted in stirrups 19 clamped to the casings 13 and insulating members 7. In the arrangement shown, the members 7 are in the form of glass fibre reinforced polyester resin bars having respective opposite ends clamped in recesses (3b, Fig. 4, not shown) in the ring 3 and clamped to flanges 15 extending from the casings 13, but in the arrangement of Fig. 6 (not shown), the members are formed by the limbs (33) of an integral U-shaped body. The ring 3, which is shown in Fig. 1 as being split at 3a and being expandable at 5, 6, may alternatively be omitted, as in Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), whereupon the members 7 are supported directly from the cover 2.
