Abstract

138,601. Curry, J. Feb. 1, 1919, [Convention date]. Catch gear of mine-cage type. - Relates to safety suspending-apparatus for lifts. The ends of a pair of parallel bars 5 secured to the top of the cage 3 are formed with vertical grooves to receive the guide-rails 2 and with horizontal grooves in which slide clamps 8. Each clamp has a jaw 10, Fig. 4, to bear against the outer side of the guide rails and an elongated slot 11 to fit over an eccentric cam 12 carried by a lever 14. The outer end of each lever is formed as a serrated cam 21 which engages the inner side of the guide-rails. The inner end of each lever is pivotally connected to a block 15 which is connected to the hoisting cable 18 and pressed downwards by a spring 17. If the cable 18 breaks, the block moves downwards under the influence of the spring and the consequent movement of the levers applies the jaws 10 and cams 21 to the guide-rails.
