Abstract
1384984 Aromatic co-polyamides BAYER AG 16 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23413/73 Heading C3R Aromatic copolyamides comprise 1 to 9À5 mol. per cent of 2,4-(1H,3H)-quinazoline dione ring-containing units (I) and 99 to 90À5 mol. per cent of units not containing such a ring (II) where X, An and A n <SP>1</SP> are aromatic radicals and R is H or alkyl. They may be prepared by reacting the appropriate aromatic acid chloride or bromide and diamines interfacially or in a solvent to a relative viscosity of 1À2 to 2À5 (0À5 g./dl. in H 2 SO 4 /25‹ C.). The presence of the specified proportion of dione ring-containing units is said to result in high moisture-absorbing polymers well suited for textile fibres. Numerous suitable diacids, diamines and solvents which may contain an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal halide are specified. The dione ring-containing diamines may be obtained in accordance with Specification 1,223,457.
