Abstract

1384898 Photopolymerizable silicone compositions. DAI NIPPON PRINTING CO Ltd and SHINETSU CHEMICAL CO 6 July 1972 [9 July 1971] 31795/72 Addition to 1323869 Heading C3T A photopolymerizable composition comprises (1) a polysiloxane containing at least one unit wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or a phenyl or-halopheayl radical, R<SP>2</SP> is H or CH 3 , R<SP>3</SP> is a C 1-10 divalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, R<SP>4</SP> is a C 1-10 hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, X is OH or a C 1-4 alkoxy radical, a is 0, 1, 2 or 3, and b and c are each 0, 1 or 2 and total 0, 1 or 2, (2) a photosensitizer and (3) a solvent for components (1) and (2). In examples polysiloxanes containing unsaturated acid residues are prepared (A) by equilibration of cyclic siloxanes with cinnamoyloxy or acryloxypropoxy silanes (Examples 1, 2 and 20), (B) from polydiorganosiloxanes having terminal SiH groups, by reaction with the acid or its hydroxyalkyl ester (Examples 16 and 17), terminal methoxy or ethoxy groups, by reaction with the acid or its diglycol ester (Examples 3, 5 and 21), terminal acetoxy groups, by reaction with the hydroxyalkyl ester (Examples 11 and 12), or terminal SiCl or SiBr groups, by reaction with the acid, hydroxyalkyl ester or alkali metal salt, (C) from trimethylsilyl-terminated linear polysiloxanes containing MeHSiO, Me(MeO)SiO or MeClSiO units, by reaction with the acid or its glycol or diglycol monoesters, or (D) from a resin derived from mixed ethoxy phenyl and methyl silanes, by reaction with pentaerythritol triacrylate (Example 6), or from resins derived from mixed chloro phenyl and methyl silanes, by 'reaction with the alkali metal salt (Examples 15, 22 and 23); reagents used are cinnamic acid and its hydroxypropyl, hydroxybutyl and 2-chlorohydroxypropyl esters and Na salt, acrylic acid and Na methacrylate and the hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl and diethylene glycol esters of these acids, and p-chlorocinnamic acid. The products are mixed with 50, 70, 100 or 1000 parts of toluene and optionally 50 or 100 parts of propanol per 100 parts by weight of polysiloxane, and 4 parts of p-nitrodiphenyl, picramide, 2,4 - dinitrophenol, p - nitroaniline, 5- nitroacenaphthene, 2,6 - dichloro - 4 - nitroaniline, benzaldehyde, acetophenone, benzoquinone, naphthaquinone, diaminobenzophenone, bis - (dimethylamino)benzophenone, 3 - methyl - 1,3 - diazo - 1,9 - benzanthrone, 2,4,6 - triphenylpyrilium perchlorate, 2,4,6- triphenylthiapyrilium perchlorate, methylene blue, malachite green, chrome green, rhodamine blue, and azo green. The solutions are applied to Al plates and exposed to light from a mercury or xenon lamp.
