Abstract

1384827 Cassette EASTMAN KODAK CO 23 July 1973 [25 July 1972] 34928/73 Heading G5R In a twin reel cassette 1, the tape T is tensioned by brake surfaces 26 mounted on brake arms 22, 23 which are pivotally mounted adjacent the tape guides 7, 8 and urged into contact with the tape by resilient arms 32. The brake surfaces engage the tape tangentially at the points the tape joins or leaves the outer convolutions of the reels and guide members 28 adjacent the brake surfaces engage the tape edges to guide the tape at these points. The resilient arms are attached to the brake arms at positions which are nearer the brake surface than the arm pivots 24, 25 and the free ends of the resilient arms engage against a bearing surface formed by the sides of the cassette housing. The profile of the bearing surface can be varied to vary the pressure applied to the brake arm as the reel size changes.
